to employers and the like then a joint honours in these subjects? Is english generally considered as having a greater credibility then history of art..Personally i have learnt more and developed myself more from art history but still feel on ostensible appearances alone, English Literature is considered a more reliable degree!

It depends on what you want to do… you can always go for a double degree and get a degree in both!

No. Employers aren’t particularly impressed with either degree. If you are going to get a Liberal Arts degree, the quality of your school will be more important than your major. Taking a few electives in economics and business will also do more for you than either of those degrees.
